Volunteering in the UJ Community Engagement Programme (CE)
There are many ways to learn and by that I am not referring to the basic and normalized way of teaching and learning between an educator and a student. We are living in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era whereby we use technology for almost everything around us. We are now privileged because there are many ways that we can use to source information, gain knowledge, explore our talents and sharpen our skills in certain areas.
The process of teaching and learning does not take place inside the classroom only, it goes beyond that even in the outside world other than the school environment. Giving students the exposure to the field of work that they are studying towards is what should be normalized in every institution. Preparing students for the corporate world through practical work.
Being part of the UJ Community Engagement Programme (CE) has exposed me to different working departments within a short space of time. From my first work integrated learning project that I have done, working at Charlotte Maxeke Academic hospital. I have been exposed to different individuals whom were ill, I had to interview them as the Quality Assurance department of the hospital was conducting a survey, a Patient Experience of Care survey to know what they are doing right and where to improve as the hospital in terms of service delivery. The purpose of this survey was to ensure that the hospital is rendering services that were up to standard to their patients.
Public relations is a process of building new relationships and sustaining the existing relationships through communication. When I was conducting the interviews I had to approach different individuals and that is what PR is about, we deal with people.
